An hour’s drive from the lodge, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi is where the southern white rhino was pulled back from extinction, and it remains one of the best places on earth to see them. Lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, cheetah and wild dog share 96,000 hectares of hill country that looks nothing like the wetlands you woke up in.
We run it as a full day with a lodge guide: out early, picnic in the reserve, back for dinner. Paired with the Western Shores and the lake, it completes the picture — three entirely different Africas in one stay.
